Here’s everything that happened in #GDGDevfest2016 @Templetown Madurai

Halfway through November, GDG Madurai was getting ready to conduct the second edition of Devfest’16 in Madurai.

In this edition, students and developers got together to the latest cutting edge technologies like cloud computing, VR and VFX, big data analytics on IOT and Progressive web apps.

The event saw the participation of young engineers from various districts in Tamilnadu like Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, Dindugal and Madurai. The hall is not only filled with air but also filled with future Developers.

The Welcome Note was given by Mr. Senthil Kumar from Qualcomm with full of excitement followed by Mr.Chandrasekaran from Huawei Technologies delivered the Keynote of #Devfest2016.

Cloud computing is one of most emerging skills today; this session was completely handled by Mr. Karthik Padmanabhan who is working in Google. He started his speech by telling, it’s all on the cloud!! His energy level was in full swing while answering the plenty of questions from student’s side, still now our participants are asking questions to him via twitter.

The youth of Volunteers from GDG hosted the Panel discussion to the Professors and HODs from various colleges in Madurai which was something awesome and the bits of effective conversations are always remembered by everyone. More than 25+ developers and designers interacted with them.

One week before ahead of the event, our volunteers went for seeking sponsorship for the programme but surprisingly SBL group from Madurai were ready to deliver the topic about VR and how the 360 degree camera is working, and pros & cons of VR. Live Demo has been showed to the participants.

Ms. Manisha Madhwani and Mr. Shadab from TCS said about the present and future of IOT. Hoping IOT will be the next Industrial revolution!!

Future of web is nothing but Progressive web app, Likewise future of India is nothing but our younger generation. The guy named Prasanth who is pursuing his engineering from Anna University has delivered his speech about Progressive web apps which was the good initiative for him.

Event Report

Every child, the word “Mother” gives all strength and joy similarly the word “Google” create a good wavelength among students.
We have planned for this event exactly two weeks before; and started spreading the event news in and around Madurai. We have asked the students to register for the event. Within two days of enrollment we got a huge response of 120 registrations. It’s been very tough for us to shortlist the students, we were very keen while short listing the students with some interesting question the response was fantastic. Finally, we have shortlisted 50 students.
We local developers and students were gathered in a place and started discussing the data structure concepts along with Competitive and dynamic programming to crack the Google APAC Test.
Senthil kumar who gave a talk about data structure and the importance of APAC test. He also shared his views on Google and the story of those who have been placed in Google recently. It was really admirable and students started dreaming about their #lifeatgoogle. Thereby everyone start networking with each other and came up with the solution of cracking APAC exam.

  • We formed a group and planned about the next GDG event in Madurai and how to share the information to end users who are all in rural areas.
  • Both Boys and Girls shared their bilateral conversation about Google Developer Program.

How to Become Google Developer

The objective of this event is about to explain the Google developer program. How to take the Google developer training certification program. The participants are encouraged to signup for the udacity and github. The participants will learn how to use Google developer console to build the first project using API keys.

Event Report

Initially we have started the overview of our event; it was simply like a Group discussion and discussed what would we contribute further in #GDG. Later we had seen the real demo about “Google Cloud Vision and Speech API “It was amazing when we saw the demo on #GoogleHangout on air. Next to that, Speakers shared their view on IOT, Applied CS, Linux and Github.

They have explained about the Pros of all the value added courses provide by Google, and had a practical session about how to create new project on Google cloud console and to create account in Github.

  • We had 60% Women Participation.
  • We were live with Hash tag: #gdgmadurai, #gdgmadustudyjam on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
  • We have shortlisted 100 students for Study Jam 2016 participation.
  • Students registered  in udacity study jam program.
  • We translated the video contents to Tamil to enable more people understand the course.
  • We formed 12 groups and asked the students to come up with all their doubts and question in a quiz format.
  • The winners of the Quiz got the swags and goodies
